Choosing a Cancun Snorkel Tour

For the very best adventures in snorkeling, choose a Cancun snorkel tour that takes you to more than one spot on the reef. The marine life varies at certain depths and locations and a snorkeling tour in Cancun with more than one stop will give you a much broader look at the magic of the reef. The types of corals, the currents, the waves, all have an effect on what types of marine life you will meet and the changing landscapes (errr, waterscapes?) are fascinating. The Cancun Snorkel Tour at Ammaris Beach Club brings you to three unique spots on the Puerto Morelos reef for the most “in depth” (pun intended) look at the reef and its inhabitants.

What to Expect on a Cancun Snorkeling Tour

Most Cancun snorkel tours are done in intimate groups of ten to twenty people. Before boarding the boat you’ll be provided with a life jacket (must be worn BY LAW on the reef), a mask, a tube and fins. Be sure that the life jacket fits SNUGLY, worn too loose and it will rise up above your ears and make for a very uncomfortable swim. Have your guide check your mask and snorkel tube to be sure they are assembled correctly and fit well to your face. Your fins are generally the same as your shoe size, again, they should fit snugly and not be flopping around! Once you’re geared up, you’ll board a small boat, most often a “panga” style, with a captain and a snorkel guide ready to show you their world.

The boat ride to the reef is the time to listen and learn from your expert guide and captain. They’ll share their knowledge of the reef and the sea and instruct you NOT TO TOUCH ANYTHING, not corals, not fishies! Corals are delicate and need to be protected, do NOT stand on the corals, keep those fins up! Soft, slow finning without splashing at the surface of the water is the most efficient and effective way to snorkel, you won’t disturb the corals or stir up sand and sediment that will affect visibility. Follow your guide closely, they know where the best fishy hiding spots are! Keep your finning nice and easy, snorkeling in currents and waves can be tiring and you’ll want to conserve your energy!
